Take Care of Eye

One of the modern marvels of technology is use of laser to correct eye vision impairment, where, in a fifteen minute sitting, many people have the opportunity of reducing or altogether eliminating their dependence on glasses and contacts. On the patient’s side, there is little preparation and the entire Lasik operation itself is finished in less than twenty minutes.

With the invent of Lasik technology and the help of a skilled Lasik physician, there is every chance of a successful surgery. Even if the patient does not achieve the 20/20 vision, he will definitely lose his strong dependence on corrective eyewear. Two main aspects of the entire Lasik process are under the patient’s control: Which doctor you choose and what steps you take after the surgery to ensure proper healing.

After having a couple of discussions with the doctor, the Lasik candidate should have a sound understanding of what the procedure entails an how they will be cared for by that doctor. It is imperative that the doctor and staff of the Lasik clinic be concerned with and responsive to any questions that the Lasik patient may have. It is also important that they follow up with the patient to ensure the success of postoperative healing.

One of the most common complaints of patients, who have undergone Lasik surgery, is having had little or no briefing as to the side-effects of Lasik. In addition, once they do experience ailment, they are told that “Many people go through that, it’s normal.” in a failed attempt to comfort them instead of tending to their specific case. In general, a visit to a Lasik clinic that involves talking to at least one more member of the staff apart from the doctor, will give the prospective client an idea of how well they will be treated.

Questions to ask the staff include ones about common or temporary side-effects that might be experienced after surgery. Here, the staff should take the time to explain specific instances that require medical attention and a visit to the clinic, instead of just suffering through the adverse effect. Infections and other problems cause pain, irritation and blurred vision; these are serious and you should quickly seek medical help. This is in case something does go wrong, make sure the staff is ready to see you, but it is very rare to have complications after Lasik.

Dryness of the eyes is one of the most common discomforts after a Lasik operation; this often occurs during sleep at night. Not only does this cause discomfort, but also slows down the healing process by preventing the surgical flap made during surgery from shutting. This happens when the dryness causes the eyelid to stick slightly to the eye. This is simply treated with the aid of eye drops, each ranging in viscosity or thickness according to the case. This is an example of a problem that the staff needs to address immediately.

The measure of how excellent the doctor’s accompanying staff is, can be a main indication of whether or not to go with that doctor. Sitting down with both the physician and his staff and discussing all stages of the Lasik procedure, the pre-exam, operation and care afterwards, is the smart way to make your informed choice.
